OUTBUILDING CONVERSION

The existing building comprised of a former disused outbuilding, inter-mediating between the property’s existing two storey dwelling and converted accommodation bothy. Our proposals endeavoured to convert this dilapidated outbuilding into a functioning element of its adjacent dwelling, providing our clients with a relaxing and comfortable space which they could enjoy. This newly converted lounge / sleeping quarters (or ‘snug’) now functions as a haven of relaxation, with a rolltop bath perfectly situated to take in the views of the woodlands beyond. Structural roof trusses are exposed internally within the vaulted ceiling, deliberately framing large window openings within the roof and external walls, whilst also delineating the different functions within this open plan space – lounge, and sleeping quarters.

A wood burning stove is placed centrally within a stone feature wall, adding to the comfort and luxury of the space whilst also defining the threshold between lounge and sleeping areas. The interior design colour palette is warm and neutral, using soft furnishings and timber to augment a comfortable and relaxing space – with the chrome finished roll top bath standing out as the luxurious centre piece of the space. A modest single storey extension now also links the newly converted snug with the main dwelling, further embedding the new conversion with its adjacent building.
